The Fiala Model 1920 carbine,

In 1920 a company in New Haven, CT called Fiala began manufacturing its own copy of the Colt Woodsman.  The Woodsman was a popular .22 long rifle semi automatic pistol that was popular for plinking, small game hunting, and target shooting. Fiala took the Colt Woodsman design and added a twist.  First, the Fiala M1920 came with a detachable should stock, along with three barrels, one in 3 inch, 7.5 inch, and 20 inch.  Thus the M1920 could be configured into a pistol, carbine, or rifle as needed.  Under NFA law the M1920 came under strict regulation as a short barreled rifle, however it was eventually exempted by the ATF.  Secondly, the Fiala was not semi automatic.  Rather, the user had to manually operate the slide with each shot.

The Fiala was named after famed explorer Anthony Fiala, who endorsed the M1920 as a more reliable wilderness survival firearm than a semi automatic. Approximately 5,000 were produced.
