A mural inspired by the Ocean and Sea birds in the new Lyall Bay Junction area in Wellington.
The colourful wave forms flow and ripple out from within her face/mind and then her hand emerges from those same waves. Showing a cyclical concept that the water is within her and she also emerges from the water as Sea Birds fly freely into the sky.
Many thanks to Tymone Winter from Empire of Genius for initiating this project and to the Lyall Bay Junction community for having me.
Thanks to the Sponsors KRL & The Wellington Airport and more.
My South Sea Spray Wāhine(women) mural is dedicated to Mothers.
To me it represents my Grandmother and my Father and my Son and I.My Grandma was born in Waihōpai, the very south of Aotearoa where the South Sea Spray Wāhine street art festival was held. My Grandma and her son (my Father) both passed away many years ago and my son is named after my Father. The string of stars they are holding represents the connection between mother and child that exists beyond time and tangibility.
Including a small spontaneous second wall I had time to squeeze in
Thank you so much the the South Sea Spray Trust and artist Whānau for this amazing week full of uplifting Manaakitanga!

‘The Last Bloom’
Cozumel has become primarily a tourist area with hundreds of people coming onto the Island from cruise ships daily, to go diving or snorkelling, to see the coral, which as I experienced first hand is fast becoming an underwater desert.
.
Coral is commonly mistaken for rocks or plants and many of us are unaware that these delicate creatures, growing like little mothers providing a nursery for thousands of species of fish, are actually living creatures. In my mural I have personified coral in the form of the face of Mother Nature, a relatable image for us humans, illustrating that coral is a living entity and to tread carefully in the water. Just like us, once it is gone, it is gone. A reminder to be careful not to stand on or touch her and not to use sunscreen in the ocean as it creates a barrier stopping nutrients from the sunlight reaching through the water to the coral.
.
The black and white splitting and melting of the form in the mural represents the rapidly declining and dying coral reefs. This is due to many human impact/global warming factors including rising water temperatures that cause non-reversible coral bleaching and an increase in smothering sponges & algae, sunscreen, and sediments upturned by ships. The large scale of the coral mother in comparison to the tiny diver represents the large scale of the issue we are facing and the beauty we are loosing before our eyes.
This is a @pangeaseed Foundation latest edition of their international public art program, @seawalls_ Artists for Oceans in partnership with @proyectopanorama.

The wave forming in stages internally through the deconstructed parts of the Sea lion represents the sea as the emotion of nature that is currently trying to communicate to us the effects of our destructive actions. Sea lion population numbers have halved and could halve and halve again until extinction within the years of my generation. We have the opportunity to collectively rise with this tide into a new state of awareness where we can live in harmony with nature and all her beings.
After I had sketched up the Sea Lion I discovered a leaking water pipe unintentionally positioned in the heart/shoulder of the Seal, I felt like it was significant so I painted a blue heart around it. We are all made of water.
.
There was another moment that @vanessarushtonphotographyspontaneously captured on camera where a sparrow landed on the pipe and drank the heart water, only taking the tiny bit it needed.
The most amazing thing about this festival was the community of people that came together. So much love to the core team 👑@kell.sunshine 👑, @mrcinzah , Tre :), @artworkofkai , @crackedink , legendary volunteers, Gizzy locals and the best new and old artist friends for their epic work and good vibes.

Wearable collaboration with Juan Bullion Hats
A painting I intentionally painted slowly like a meditation over time, in between the other busy life things. It found it’s purpose, beyond the wall, to wrap around and move out in the world✨I’ve been wearing the OG amazing @juanbullion hats for years while muralling or adventuring, they’re so adaptable and functional and sculptural.
A dream surface for this painting to float around on
The original Juan Bullion headwear, the artwork abstracted into the panels of the hat, and the bedrock cloth aka sarong, aka lava lava to be worn, hung on a wall, lain on the sand, draped on a chair or anyway as you like it.

faces with infinite ears do flips
changing form and back again in an accordion motion

happiness is a balance evolving constantly
as layers fuse together and layers fall away the caterpillar changes into the butterfly
It’s about letting go of the masks we wear
tunnels of memories fading in and out
my mother grew up in this place
then the UFO was seen

Collaboration Mural with Dreamgirls Art Collective
Inspired by Wahine Toa Mākereti Papakura, Te Arawa, Tūhourangi iwi. (1873-1930).
This 7 story mural was painted in Rotorua for the amazing @aronuiartsfestival
Based on Mākereti’s story, her different adornments & clothing represent the two worlds she was part of. Her life & roots here in Aotearoa & her life abroad in England.
Her hair flows free on one side with her huia feather woven in & a ribbon on the other side, to represent the red headscarf she wore when she was a famous tourist guide at Whakarewarewa thermal valley in Rotorua.
She wears her Korowai & tiki Te Uoro as well as her 1900’s style dress, the skirt transforms into her piupiu. Her torso is a Taniwha to follow her gut instincts & her neck becomes Taniwha, speaking fluently & fiercely in both languages.
She wears one boot, a hybrid taniwha/1900’s style boot to represent the merging of two worlds, the other barefoot shows she is grounded in knowing exactly who she is & her whakapapa. She kneels on the wave as she travelled back and forth across the ocean.
Holding a physical scroll representing her writing achievements in her Taniwha hand, she strongly & unapologetically claims her contribution to literature & representing Māoritanga.
She is poised, holding her Taiaha, ready to stand up for who she is, her people, culture & what she believes in no matter how hard the journey.
What an honour to collaborate with Mākereti’s descendant, June Grant. Ngā mihi @juneairinigrant for your guidance, trust & your creative input to add the design detail for the piupiu.
Massive mihi to Cian, Frances, Bobby and the whole @aronuiartsfestival crew for everything and to @elliotodonnell79 with @bareps for helping with project management.
Ngā mihi to @creativenz for the funding to make this happen!

A lil illustration for @amplifierart series of mental health resources for students. This piece interprets feelings of despair that we can all experience sometimes, the faces and the swirling forms within represent identifying the feelings, the tiger roar to express, acknowledge and share them and the birds to let them be and let them go when they are ready.
Some helpful words from Amplifier: Feelings of despair can be described as a lack of hope that life can feel better than it does.
Sometimes despair can be manifested as irritability, isolating yourself from friends and loved ones, or feeling hopeless about the future. And when we feel this way, it can be challenging to find help because social media and the world around us tell us that we must remain positive no matter what, 24/7. It’s okay to talk about despair even when the world is telling us that despair is not okay to be felt while we move toward healing.
It’s important to keep in mind that feelings of despair are normal experiences and are part of being human. We want everyone to thrive, to feel secure and feel hopeful about their futures, even when it may be difficult. Here are some ways to manage feelings of despair:
Accepting that what you’ve gone through can’t be undone, but the difficult feelings - such as deep sadness, shame, or grief - that come with it will lessen over time
Understanding that, no matter how unfair or devastating this loss or change was, the future holds many more kind, soft, and happy moments than you can see right now - and it is better to be here for that future than not.
Finding and focusing on the positives in life does not mean you have to forget or invalidate the struggles you’ve experienced.
Contact @amplifierart for more info and details about the project they are rolling out for students

A book cover commission from a local Wellington business Fliperature for Mary Shelley’s story Frankenstein.
A book format designed for reading lying down. Read on one side of the book. When you reach the end, flip it and continue reading.
My interpretation of the story of Frankenstein was a focus on the internal battle between different aspects of the self as the two main characters, Frankenstein and the Monster, being two parts of the one. An internal journey and battle of hope & turmoil.
There are two covers which make up one artwork, which is designed to be seen from any angle with new faces appearing from the colours between the masks.

A mural for Martinborough Mural Walk event hosted by Ventana Creative Collective.
"It represents the vibrant world of Martinborough and those who live there. It represents the French term, described to me over the weekend by lovely visitors, 'Terroir' - based around growing grapes to make wine, it describes the Earth's unique environmental qualities as it's 'Character', a personification of the Land. This mural is about the connection between human and the earth, that we are one in the same, to be mindful of the planet which in turn reflects back on us." .
.
Favourite observer story: "One of my favourites was an old man who said my art reminded him of his travels to Paris when he was young where he saw comic-art style murals that pushed the boundaries of reality. He came back the next day to show me photos :)"

A public ad takeover and art exhibition in the streets of Brooklyn, New York City and at Superchief Gallery.
Curated by Cleo Barnett.
Part of a larger historical movement of ad takeovers, OUROBOROS is one example how to interrupt the outdoor advertising industry. Check out the show, pick up your own key to unlock advertising spaces and do it yourself!
OUROBOROS is an exhibition that encompasses multiple challenges and lines of questioning explored by independent curator Cleo Barnett in collaboration with nowHERE and Superchief Gallery: What role does street art play in a society where advertising is prolific within our visual landscape? What ways can white privilege be used to interrupt and subvert capitalistic systems? How does symbology and mythology connect us globally and throughout time? Why does both the content and scale of outdoor advertising go unquestioned in its domination of our public spaces?
